Dublin, Republic of Ireland
Dublin has a flourishing economy, young population, and highly-educated and skilled workforce. For investors and business founders, this city of 555,000 people also offers:
- labor costs and corporate tax rates well below the European average
- good connectivity
- English as one of the two official languages
- robust support for start-ups and generous tax breaks for R&D
- a booming tourist industry, based around Dublin’s history, whiskey production, music and pub/club culture—in pre-pandemic 2019, it welcomed 5.46 million visitors.
The city’s famous finance and technology sectors are thriving. It’s estimated that over 80,000 people work in technology here in ‘Silicon Valley North’. Dublin’s ‘Silicon Docks’ area is home to Google, LinkedIn, Amazon, Salesforce, Indeed, Twitter, TikTok, and Meta’s largest office outside California. Finance companies here include the Bank of America, JP Morgan, PWC and Deloitte. Many more are set to move to Dublin from the UK in the wake of Brexit.

Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a cosmopolitan, inclusive city of entrepreneurs and innovators, with a diverse, skilled workforce and great transport connections. It offers several top universities and many research institutes. Companies in Amsterdam include Adyen, Philips, Heineken, Akzo Nobel, ING, Nike, Unilever, Uber, Netflix and CISCO.
Here, you’ll find the Netherlands’ most powerful supercomputer and the European Medicines Agency, as well as the world’s first accelerator for sustainable fashion. They reflect the city’s strong IT, life sciences and sustainability sectors.
The city’s tourist industry is also flourishing. There are 9500 UNESCO historic sites in the region, including the city’s Canal Ring District with its attractive waterways and narrow, gabled 17th century houses. The city’s Museum District’s highlights include the Rijksmuseum, with its works by Rembrandt and Vermeer, the Stedelijk with its modern art, and the Van Gogh Museum.
