Competing as a New York Realtor

Competing in a market full of great realtors is not always something that comes easily. If you are new to the real estate market, it can be really hard to try and make a name for yourself amongst established and great realtors. You have to learn to compete. When you were studying, with tools like New York Real Estate Exam Prep, and taking the licensing exam you were learning all of the factual aspects of becoming a realtor. Now is the time that you have to learn the ways of the industry so you can be successful.

It can be hard to try and jump into the market, but the sooner you take the leap and grind out the first few years it will be all worth it. We have some great tips that you can implement into your daily agenda that may help you find a place in the market.

Attend Events

As stinky as going to random events can be, it is one of the very best ways to make a name for yourself and that is exactly what you need right now. Events provide you with an opportunity to build connections with lots of different people. We aren’t saying you have to go and find a new best friend, but you do need to be friendly and genuine to the people who are there.

It is always helpful if you pay attention to what the event is really about before you decide to register yourself. Make sure it is something you are actually interested in so you don’t get there and have nothing to add to any conversations. It’s important that you do not make the conversations you have about yourself, but that you do share your occupation and let people know that you would love to assist them in real estate if they ever needed it.

Learn from Competitors

How closely are you paying attention to what your competitors are doing? Also, how carefully have you decided who your competition is? You can not consider someone with an established clientele and years in the market as your competition. You have to find someone on a level playing field.

Once you have determined who the competition is, you can start paying attention to exactly what they are doing. If they are marketing a special way, you should start mimicking it. You are both competing for the same clients so you need to be wherever they are. Obviously, be considerate while you are seeking out the competition. You don’t want to make a bad name for yourself across the industry as a dirty agent.

We understand how difficult it can be to start a career in the real estate market. There is a ton of competition and the first few years are super grueling. You have to be ready to put in the needed hours and support yourself when income may not be quite what you were expecting. A successful career can not be established overnight so be content to slowly climb the ladder to the top of a competitive market; someday it will be very worth it.
